Dr. Mphumezi Hombana holds a PhD in New Testament Studies from Stellenbosch University, with a specialization in the redaction history of Mark's Passion Narrative by the Canonical Gospels. His academic work is characterized by a deep interest in text-based methodologies for interpreting the Gospels, a passion honed throughout his postgraduate studies from MTh to PhD. While his primary interest lies in text based historical methods of exegesis, Dr. Hombana also incorporates context-oriented exegetical methods in his research, demonstrating a versatile approach to New Testament scholarship. As an educator, Dr. Hombana teaches New Testament studies across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research, mentoring the next generation of scholars in the field. His dedication to academic excellence ensures that students engage with both traditional textual methods and innovative approaches tailored to contemporary contexts. An active scholar, Dr. Hombana is engaged in several New Testament studies projects. Notably, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of two significant volumes: Gospel Studies in Africa and Essays in Honor of Prof. Welile Mazamisa: The Text, The Reader, and Two Horizons. Both works contribute to advancing scholarship on New Testament texts and their interpretation within diverse contexts, particularly in African theological discourse and across the globe. In his capacity as Unit Leader of New Testament and Early Christian Studies at the University of South Africa, Dr. Hombana provides leadership in teaching, research, and curriculum development. His contributions to the field reflect a commitment to fostering a robust understanding of the New Testament through both traditional textual methods and innovative, context-sensitive approaches
